My approach
A multicultural relationship faces a constellation of factors: culture, language, gender norms, social expectations, climate, loneliness, and adaptation stress. Navigating a relationship that faces these realities takes a special approach—one where both backgrounds are recognized and understood. I strive to create a space where the common stressors of migration and cross-cultural dating are understood, and where frustration, misinterpretations, homesickness, and fear of loss of culture can be shared and met with empathy and respect.

The answer, I believe, is not in one partner changing the other but rather embarking on a process of mutual understanding and adaptation. We aim to protect and maintain shared values by communicating with each other, while equally identifying where our values diverge so we can turn these differences into opportunities for growth.
Although multicultural relationships face many of the same challenges, each relationship is its own universe and deserves its own intimate dialect—a way of communicating that lets partners share needs, worries, and desires.
